Interview with Parker Krex
Parker was only 9 years old when he brainstormed an idea that would skyrocket to popularity within months. This idea, Brick Loot, enabled kids as enthused by custom building as Parker was, to acquire unique additions to their sets. Nowadays, aged 15 and Chief Entertainment Officer of Brick Loot, Parker continues to grow his market, gaining recognition and rave reviews from LEGO fans from all over the world!
Excited by his ambitious entrepreneurism, Kebloom reached out to Parker to ask him about his experiences.
1) How would you best describe Brick Loot?
Brick Loot is a company dedicated to toy brick enthusiasts of all ages. We specialize in Subscription Boxes, Custom LED Lighting kits for LEGO as well as Custom Brick and Minifigure sets.
It’s basically just pure awesome!
“ Don’t give up. If you think you have a good idea, then bring it to life and see where it goes. You never know what might happen. ”
2) What passions inspired your business idea?
I have always been a huge fan of LEGO. I have been reviewing sets on YouTube since I was 4. During the subscription box craze, I asked my parents for a geek/gamer box for my birthday. When it came I was SUPER disappointed as all it had a comic book, air freshener and a pair of socks! WHAT? My immediate thought was that it would be much better to have a box filled with custom LEGO kits and Minifigures! My parents are both entrepreneurs and when I pitched the idea to them they thought it had great potential.
3) What problem were you solving in the creation of Brick Loot?
The problem of the boxes not existing! We deliver surprise boxes filled with fun each month. Many people share their joy when they receive our boxes. We also make gift giving easy, especially for grandparents who don’t live close to their grandchildren. They LOVE gifting Brick Loot as they feel like they are a part of the experience. When the box arrives the gift givers receive a call, informing them of what came in the package.
“ Having someone to guide you is so important.”
4) Who supported you in creating/building your business?
My parents were hugely important in getting started. They helped me with the initial funding and writing up a business plan. We started producing boxes in our basement and a few months later we needed to move to a warehouse. For the first year they helped with Brick Loot as well as another company they owned. After a year of working for both they sold their other business and now they focus 100% on helping me grow Brick Loot.
5) What advice would you give to aspiring young entrepreneurs?
Don’t give up. If you think you have a good idea, then bring it to life and see where it goes. You never know what might happen.
6) To what extent would a platform like Kebloom have helped you achieve your dreams?
Using Kebloom is a great resource to help start a business from scratch. Having someone to guide you is so important. You never stop learning when you own a business!
7) What has been the best part about starting up a business?
I enjoy creating things and with Brick Loot we produce at least 4-8 new items each month. We are ALWAYS planning new kits and themes.
8) What skills did you bring to Brick Loot and feel you have developed?
I had the LEGO and brick building knowledge, so I knew what fans would want. I was also good at finding companies to partner with and designers to contribute to the box.
Over time I have learned tons about running a business: how to have employees, challenges when working with vendors and most importantly, how to make customers happy!
