Interview with Tamia Coleman-Hawkins
Tamia Coleman-Hawkins, age 12, found her joy in baking when barely of school age. Taking beloved tricks and tips from her grandmother, Mia developed a recipe that was uniquely her own. Excited by her passion for baking and prospects of where it could take her, Mia started up Mia’s Treats Delights, her very own bakery-from-home! Nowadays, on the kidbox board of directors and with a philanthropic mentality, giving back to the homeless with a percentage of the sales made, Tamia is kicking business goals!
Inspired by the big dreams had by this entrepreneur, we asked Tamia a few questions about her business successes!
1) How would you best describe Mia’s Treats Delight?
Mia’s Treats Delight is a bakery business that makes cookies, cupcakes and brownies.
“Never give up and to follow your dreams.”
2) How old were you when you founded Mia’s Treats Delight?
I was 8 years old when I founded Mia’s Treats Delight.
3) What passions inspired your business idea?
The passions that inspired my business were my love of baking and giving back.
4) What problem were you solving in the creation of Mia’s Treats Delight?
In the creation of Mia’s Treats Delight I was taking the first step of contributing to the fight against homelessness.

5) Who supported you in creating/building your business?
My mom, my mentors and my customers supported me in creating and building my business.
6) What advice would you give to aspiring young entrepreneurs?
Advice that I would give to aspiring entrepreneurs is, to never give up and to follow your dreams.
7) To what extent would a platform like Kebloom have helped you achieve your dreams?
A platform like Kebloom would have helped me get business exposure, as well as helped me develop relationships with those who believe in my dream and are willing and able to help me grow.
8) What has been the best part about running your business?
The best part about running my business has been meeting lots of new people and that I can do what I love.
9) What skills did you bring to Mia’s Treats Delight and feel you have developed?
Skills that I brought to Mia’s Treats Delight were baking and knowing how to handle money. A skill that I have developed over time is being able to talk to people within a more professional environment.
