Interview with Kinyah Bean
Kinyah Bean, then aged 6, was an enthusiastic young girl challenged by her father to start up her own business by the age of 10. After her fair share of pitfalls and two years later, Kinyah surprised her dad with a glass of particularly delicious homemade lemonade. From there, her business, B Chill Lemonade was born! Kinyah channels all her energies and passion for hard work into her business, selling her tasty beverage to a huge variety of customers.
Inspired by Kinyah and her drive for success, Kebloom asked Kinyah to spill the lemonade on what goes on behind closed doors…
1) How would you best describe B Chill Lemonade?
B Chill Lemonade is a fresh, authentic lemonade beverage experience. Made with real lemons and paired with real fruit, BCL provides a tantalizing beverage for every consumer to enjoy.
“Perseverance, leadership, communication and critical thinking are a few skills that being a business owner has developed over time.”
2) Where is your business based?
Our principal place of business is in Memphis, Tennessee.
3) How old were you when you founded your company?
I started BCL at 8 years old and I am now 11 years old.
“The most amazing thing about success, being an entrepreneur and a dreamer is that it doesn’t have an age requirement or limit!”
4) What inspired passions inspired B Chill Lemonade?
I believe that I didn’t actually choose lemonade, lemonade chose me. God showed me in a dream how to make the recipe we still use today!
5) Who supports you with your business?
Immediate support comes from my parents, brother and grandparents. Memphis and surrounding areas have been encouraging also, and the support that I got when I started back in Jackson, Mississippi was second to none. They showed me what caring looks like and I greatly appreciate it.
6) What advice would you give to social entrepreneurs/inventors?
If I can do it, you can do it too! The most amazing thing about success, being an entrepreneur and a dreamer is that it doesn’t have an age requirement or limit! I truly believe that as long as you still have breath in your body, you still have time to be what you want to be, have what you want to have and do what you want to do... So, go have, be and do!
7) To what extent would a platform like Kebloom have helped your achieve your dreams?
A platform like Kebloom could have assisted in building my network of like-minded business owners. Being an entrepreneur can be lonely at times and having that support is a big help.
8) What has been the best part about running your business?
The best part about running BCL is meeting amazing people, learning about business and traveling. This business has provided me the opportunity to travel to so many places and to make great memories, especially with my family.
9) What has been the most challenging part?
The most challenging part of running my business is balancing my business with my personal life. It does come with many sacrifices.
10) What skills do you feel you have developed since becoming a business owner?
Perseverance, leadership, communication and critical thinking are a few skills that being a business owner has developed over time.
…and anything else you’d like to add!
