Interview with Logan Guleff
Having won a recipe contest from the impressionable age of 8, Logan Guleff was already off to a roaring start. With many skills to showcase and a relentless determination to get things done, Logan has achieved a lot and more with his talents in cooking and recipe creating. Having won Masterchef Junior with Gordon Ramsey and now working on several cooking projects, Logan isn’t slowing down anytime soon! Now aged 16, as a television personality, cookbook author and business founder, we can hardly anticipate where the prospects of this young man will take him!
Excited to speak to an entrepreneur who has achieved so much in such a short period of time, Kebloom spoke to Logan about making it this far:
1) How would you best describe your business?
I would describe my business as kind of eclectic and ever changing. First, it was just spice blends. Then I wrote and produced my own book. Throughout it all I have been working as a recipe developer and chef. I do private dinners, developed recipes for food companies and even helped design a new exciting kids menu at Great Wolf Lodge. So, am I in business or am I a business? You can be the judge!
“I would say whatever you do make sure you are helping the community.”
2) How old were you when you founded your business?
I won my first recipe contest at age 8 and after the big event; I developed my first spice blend. I sold it for charity to buy a track timer for my Cub Scout pack. Then I was selling spices that I would blend in a church kitchen until I won Masterchef Junior with Gordon Ramsay. After that, I was pulled to several other cooking projects. It’s kind of funny, after all this time, I don’t even want to change my original recipes - they are all really good!
3) What inspired your business idea?
Lots of people don’t know this, but my first win was a national science contest - I placed third. The prize was large and exciting and from then on I knew I wanted to control my own destiny and create my own products. I guess in some ways I was born an entrepreneur.
4) Who supported you in creating/building your business?
My family of course supports me and helps me. My mom is the best at encouraging me to keep reaching for my dreams. So is my city, Memphis, TN. The city has opened up all kinds of opportunities and has always been my biggest fan! I think I’m very lucky to have such great support from my hometown.
“ I felt empowered to do more, be more, and make more!”
5) What advice would you give to aspiring young entrepreneurs?
Giving back to the community is essential in being a happier person and for keeping balance. When you take the time to help others you feel good, they feel good, and the world is just a nicer place. So, I would say whatever you do make sure you are helping the community!
6) To what extent would a platform like Kebloom have helped you achieve your dreams?
I think it would really have helped me and might still! I always have another idea that I just don’t know how to start! So sign me up!
7) What has been the best part about starting up a business?
When I saw my product on the shelves - it was unbelievable! My book, my spices, my recipes, my food in a menu! I felt empowered to do more, be more, and make more!
8) What skills have you developed since being an entrepreneur?
I think I overcame being shy and I certainly gained confidence in my ability to be an entrepreneur.
9) Is there anything else you would like to add?
I found myself in the middle of all the meetings, spreadsheets and failures! I was told, if you win “Best Book in the World” (by Gourmand) you will be overcome with emotion and you will forget what you want to say. When my book won, it was exactly like that. What a moment!
